New project to address Adolescent Domestic Abuse (ADA) in Leicester

Go Getta CIC, in partnership with H.O.P.E Training & Leadership CIC, has secured funding (2024/2025) from the Leicester Police Crime Commissioner for a new project focused on Adolescent Domestic Abuse (ADA).
This initiative aims to tackle a critical issue affecting young people in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland.
The project was inspired by two key pieces of research. In summer 2024, Go-Getta and H.O.P.E collaborating with a De Montfort University Psychology Intern, conducted a pilot consultation on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and ADA.
The online survey, completed by 77 young people aged 13-25, revealed a significant gap in understanding domestic abuse among youth. While 66% of respondents had personal experience or knew someone affected by domestic abuse, many viewed it primarily as physical violence between cohabiting partners.
Additionally, a systematic rapid review by VISION (City, University of London) led by Dr. Ruth Weir with the support of Dr Olumide Adisa analysed 79 peer-reviewed papers, uncovering critical gaps in ADA research.
The review highlighted the need for more comprehensive studies addressing cultural factors, gender differences, and the role of community in prevention and recovery.
In response to these findings, Go-Getta and H.O.P.E will implement a multifaceted approach over the next 12 months, including:
➡️Professional ADA Workshops
➡️Parent/Carer ADA Workshops
➡️Peer Research and Youth-Led Advocacy
As part of this new project  Go Getta CIC and H.O.P.E will also be sharing the findings with VISION and working with them to amplify the opportunities for local systems change.
Meena Kumari from H.O.P.E Training & Leadership CIC stated, “This project represents a crucial step in addressing the complex issue of adolescent domestic abuse. By engaging professionals, parents, and young people themselves, we aim to create a more informed and supportive community.”
Sav Vaid of Go Getta CIC added , “Our goal is to empower young people with knowledge and resources to recognise and address domestic abuse in all its forms.”
