H.O.P.E Training & Leadership C.I.C, has been awarded funds from City Bridge Foundation, to fund BY & For spaces for the H.O.P.E Leadership Programme for those working on the VAWG sector. This transformative initiative, set to commence on November 6, 2024, aims to empower leaders from Black and Racialised Communities within the VAWG sector.
The 12-week programme, funded by City Bridge Foundation and various VAWG organisations, will culminate in a celebratory showcase event in London in February 2025, highlighting the achievements of all participating leaders.
Meena Kumari, founder of H.O.P.E Training & Leadership C.I.C, stated, “This programme represents a significant step forward in our mission to foster diverse leadership and strengthen our fight against domestic abuse and sexual violence. We’re grateful for the support of City Bridge Foundation and our partner organisations in making this vision a reality.”
The H.O.P.E VAWG Leadership Programme focuses on four key objectives:
- Increasing diversity in leadership
- Improving retention within the sector
- Developing crucial skills for effective leadership
- Providing valuable networking opportunities
Fifteen prominent organisations have secured spaces in the programme’s third cohort, including Women in Prison, Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid, Latin American Women’s Aid (LAWA), Iranian & Kurdish Women’s Rights Organisation (IKWRO), Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse (STADA), Surviving Economic Abuse (SEA), Victim Support, SafeLives, Respect, Rape Crisis England and Wales Sikh Women’s Aid, Naz & Matt Foundation and the Asian Women’s Resource Centre, among others.
City Bridge Foundation, a 900-year-old charity responsible for maintaining five London bridges, including the iconic Tower Bridge, has played a pivotal role in bringing this programme to fruition. The foundation, which awards over £30 million annually to London charities, exemplifies its commitment to bridging societal divides and supporting organisations tackling inequality.
H.O.P.E Training & Leadership C.I.C, under Meena Kumari’s guidance, specialises in training and consultancy focused on leadership, anti-racist practices, and safeguarding, with a particular emphasis on domestic abuse and sexual violence. This expertise forms the foundation of the VAWG Leadership Programme, ensuring participants receive top-tier training and support.
As the programme prepares to welcome its third cohort, expectations are high for the positive impact it will have on the VAWG sector and the communities it serves. By nurturing a new generation of diverse leaders, the H.O.P.E VAWG Leadership Programme is set to play a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive and effective approach to combating violence against women and girls.
